Gaucin is a quiet town with a large ex-pat community. Built on a mountain ridge, the views from the ubiquitous fort stretch as far as Gibraltar on a clear day. The place is pleasantly sleepy – especially during siesta time – and filled with groups of old men who sit at the café tables, lingering over a lunchtime drink. In the centre is a small church with a tower reminiscent of a fortified castle.
